Quicklinks Enhanced Security
By default, Quicklinks relies on Microsoft Teams to provide certain context information within the Quicklinks tab, including your Microsoft 365 tenant and user information, so that the application can uniquely identify you, your organization and your location (e.g. a specific Teams channel). However, this information is not highly secure. As a result, while Quicklinks does not block you in this situation, we strongly recommend that you enable enhanced security. More information is explained below.
Quicklinks Tab Security
Within the context of Microsoft Teams itself, as explained above, Quicklinkes relies on certain contextual information that Microsoft Teams provides to applications like Quicklinks, such as your user and Microsoft 365 tenant information. This is used in the backend to locate your unique Quicklinks in the database. However, this information is not provided to applications in a secure manner, and so to ensure the highest level of security of your account and information, we strongly recommend turning on the enhanced security Quicklinks provides, in the form of Microsoft 365 account Single Sign-On (SSO).
When this mode is NOT enabled, you will see a warning indicator at the top of your Quicklinks tab, as in the screen clipping below.
To find out more about enabling the enhanced security options, please see the Enabling Enhanced Security section below.
Quicklinks Web Security
Quicklinks can be used outside of Microsoft Teams, in a standalone web experience. This can be accessed from within the Quicklinks tab by clicking the down arrow next to the Quicklinks tab title (in a Teams channel or group chat) and then selecting Go to website
or clicking the 'globe' icon on the top right in the personal scope.
In this web experience, unlike when inside Microsoft Teams, enhanced security is required and you cannot access Quicklinks without it being enabled. To enable Enhanced Security, please see the next section.
Enabling Enhanced Security
In order to enable enhanced security, you can simply follow the login steps provided in the location you are in. For instance, inside Microsoft Teams, you can click on the security warning indicator, shown below, and then select the Log In
option.
Alternatively, when inside the web experience, a sign in pane is immediately presented if you are not signed in, as shown below.
In any case, you will be presented with a Microsoft account consent screen, similar to that shown below, acknowledging that you grant Quicklinks access to verify your information.
In some organizations, however, users are not enabled to sign in to applications and you will instead see a screen similar to the one below. In this case, an IT Administrator in your organization will need to provide this consent on behalf of all users in the organization, so that anyone can automatically sign in with Enhanced Security. In order to do this, your administrator needs to visit the Quicklinks customer portal page where consents can be assigned.
